Butuan City, June 11 – During the “Fiesta sa DENR” recognition of environmental partners held on June 10 at DENR-13 covered court, the environmental partners commended DENR Caraga for its regional milestone accomplishments over the past years in terms of environmental management and development particularly in the successful implementation of the National Greening Program (NGP) and anti-illegal logging campaign in the region.
DENR Caraga Regional Director Nonito M. Tamayo personally hand over the awards and plaque of appreciation to four (4) farmers and development organizations, twenty-seven (27) local government units, two (2) municipal police stations, and ten (10) regional line government agencies who contributed significant contribution on the implementation of successful NGP and intensifying anti-illegal logging campaign in the region.
“We are grateful to our partners for sharing us their unequivocal supports that help us in our quest for responsible management of environment and natural resources. Environmental concern transcends no boundaries. It is very crucial task of DENR but we cannot do it alone. However, we can achieve excellent accomplishments in working partnership with different government line agencies, people’s organization, community, PNP, National Defense and Arm Forces of the Philippines. Together, we work in harmony, in convergence, there’s success,” RD Tamayo said.
National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) Caraga Regional Director Mylah Faye Aurora B. Cariño, during the recognition of environmental partners cited DENR Caraga for its significant accomplishments while ensuring that NEDA will continually support the agency.
“We have been working with the DENR in areas of environmental development and management in the region. We congratulate the DENR officials and staff for its accomplishments as part of its convergence effort. Rest assured that NEDA Caraga will always support DENR,” RD Cariño said.
In the same occasion, Department of Tourism (DOT) Caraga Regional Director Letecia Tan said the region has already hit its one million tourists target in 2014 with the help of DENR’s support for eco-tourism and forest tourism.
“I was inspired by the DENR’s accomplishments and commitments with 1,100 bodies. DENR has been also our partner in convergence and we are more inspired to work with other government agencies not only for eco-tourism with the DENR but also agri-tourism with the Department of Agriculture”, RD Tan said.
Department of Agriculture (DA) Caraga Regional Director Edna Mabeza has expressed satisfaction over the achievements of DENR. “Our office will always support in protecting the natural resources as we have related mandate”.
On the same event, Police Regional Office Caraga Regional Director PCSupt David Ombao ensures that the PNP has intensified its campaign against illegal logging in the region as mandated by E.O 23 of 2011 declaring a moratorium on the cutting and harvesting of timber in the natural and residual forests and creating the anti-illegal logging task force.
“We are committed to help the DENR on its objective on zero-illegal logging incidence in Caraga. The central Philippine National Police is focused on this kind of operations,” said PCSupt Ombao.
Meanwhile, the Sibagat Federation of Tribal Community Agro Farmers Development Association, Inc. (SFTCAFDAI), a group of 21 people’s organizations lead by Arnold M. Acebido “Datu Subang”, thanked to DENR Caraga for providing technical and livelihood supports. Datu Subang said that the NGP had changed their lives from being a timber poacher to forest defender.
“I used to carry guns with me before. But with the assistance of the PNP and the DENR officials I surrendered everything to the authorities. With the support of DENR, it assured us of our livelihood. My future and my children’s future are already ensured since I have source of income and my 163 hectares of coffee plantation are enough guarantee for us,” Datu Subang who has been deputized as forest guard said.
Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Caraga Regional Director Florencio F. Sunico Jr., commended the DENR Caraga for its accomplishments considering that it inspired convergence to work for success.
“With convergence, we can do many things. Although TESDA has unrelated mandates, we coordinated with DENR in some areas of concern. TESDA has distributed 47,641 chairs that provide backlog chairs to schools in Caraga which was possible because of the convergence between PAGCOR, TESDA and DENR,” RD Sunico said. (Johny S.
