CENRO Lianga, LGUs join synchronize national cleanup, gather 255 kg. garbage

Lianga, Surigao del Sur (26 September 2016). In the observance of National Clean-up Month Celebration 2016, the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) Lianga personnel together with the Local Government Units (LGUs) officials and employees of San Agustin, Marihatag and Barobo, all in Surigao del Sur had conducted the simultaneous clean-up activities on September 16 and 17, 2016.


Anchored on the National Clean-up month theme: “Bayan Ko, Linis Ko: Partnering Towards People’s Environmental Movement” the massive and synchronized cleanup drives were conducted in the Tawnaga Creek, Terminal and Park located in Barangay Otieza, San Agustin; Marihatag Park, Terminal and Creek located in Barangay Poblacion, Marihatag and all barangays within the municipality of Barobo.


Participants had collected some 255 kilograms of garbage of different solid waste materials in the rivers, creek, terminal and other public places of the participating LGUs. Some of the waste materials collected were plastic, cellophane and debris that caused pollution with adverse impact to the environment. These waste materials were properly segregated into biodegradable and non-biodegradable which in accordance to the RA 9003 known as “Solid Waste Management Act”. The said collected garbage was immediately hauled by LGU dump truck to transport in the sanitary landfill for proper disposition.


OIC CENR Officer Hernan Hernandez was grateful to the active participation of the concerned civil servants in local government units who joins the successful synchronized cleanup citing that such activity is significant in managing and maintaining healthy, safe and sustainable environment.

“This celebration was successfully undertaken wherein the participants are helping to mitigate the impact of global warming and climate change through proper waste management. Regular cleanup activity is very important role and responsibilities of all Filipino citizens of this country to ensure a balance and healthful ecology,” said OIC CENR Office Hernandez.


The simultaneous cleanup drive is an annual celebration pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 244 which declares every September as National Clean-up Month. This event aims to maintain the cleanliness of the environment particularly in the coastal, river, creek/estero and other public places which promoted the way of life as well as the ecological balance of the earth.
