Tandag City, Surigao del Sur (07 February 2017). PENRO Surigao del Sur personnel plants nipa propagules at area near Tago estuary, in town of Tago last February 3, 2017 in line with the celebration of the World Wetlands day.
Tago estuary is one of the important wetlands and pathway of floodwaters from tributary rivers of San Miguel town. Area of estuary is part of the 2015 NGP site of Tago Agro-Industrial Development Cooperative (TAGINDECO) who maintain the area with mangrove and nipa areas.
World Wetlands Day is annually celebrated every February 2. This year’s theme is “Wetlands for Disaster Risk Reduction” which aims to raise awareness and to highlight the vital roles of healthy wetlands in reducing the impacts of extreme events such as floods, droughts and cyclones on communities, and in helping to build resilience.
