Tandag, Surigao del Sur (19 April 2017). The Local Government Unit of Cantilan supports the implementation of the Biochar Community Enterprise Project as one of the Green Economy Model (GEM) by signing a Memorandum of Agreement with the DENR.
During the biochar project launching at Ecopark, Barangay Hayanggabon, Claver, Surigao del Norte on April 18, 2017, Cantilan Mayor Philip A. Pichay and DENR Secretary Regina Paz L. Lopez signed a memorandum of agreement in support to the implementation of the biochar project in Surigao del Sur.
Meanwhile, Surigao del Sur PENR Officer Jose Flavio V. Concha inked an agreement with the sixty (60) initial participating member households (PMH) for biochar project implementation. Under the agreement, the PMH agree to abide by the conditions of DENR such as full participation in the biochar project and to meet the standards and performance targets of the said project subject to acceptance and inspection of CENRO concern team.
DENR will pay to PMH an amount of ₱7,000.00/month within the initial three (3) months for the raw biochar that partner households will produce at a total of 70 sacks per month with 30kg/sack (dry weight) along with its more or less 70 liters produced liquid smoke.
The project will be implemented initially at two areas in Barangay Adlay of Carascal town and Barangay Magasang of Cantilan with Adlay ISF Farmers Multipurpose Cooperative (ADISFFAMCO) and Tigpanalipod sa Katunggan nan Magasang (TIKAMA) as the participating community organizations. The project will be expanded to the identified areas in Surigao del Sur and in Caraga region under Sustainable Integrated Area Development (SIAD) – Green Economy Model of the agency.
